Actually practice! Make whatever you are practicing doable! Whether it’s casting, knot tying, fishing technique, etc, eliminate excuses. Minimise time required to still obtain results.
Be prepared, be ready. Make going fishing easy, have the gear you need, ready and waiting in good working order. It’s not just about the gear though, look at weather before during and what’s happening immediately post your trip. Checkout recent reports, etc.
Take time. Do not rush anything. Choose where, what and how to fish, this is time well spent.
Make good decisions. Be adaptable, when things aren’t working, change something. I like to make 1 change every cast and let the fish tell me when I have it right! Even then, if I think keeping things the same for a few casts, might bring results, I’m happy to do that.
Have fun, remember that even on a blank day, with everything seemingly going wrong, there are people who would love to be in your shoes!
