April provided some good fly fishing on the lakes. Once again we are busy working with clients of varying experience over at Loynton Lakes. Lures and nymphs dominated catch returns but a few milder days in late April saw the appearance of a few Hawthorn flies and at last we experienced a bit of dry fly fishing here! Shared great days with fabulous people and look forward to many more during May, when things hopefully warm a little more.
The early season river fishing proved a little challenging. The river is as crystal clear as I’ve ever seen at this time of year and with little cover for us or the fish, they have been spooky! That does not mean impossible though and while nymph fishing has predominated as usual during the season’s early weeks, we’ve managed to find some hatch activity and dry fly fishing most days we’ve been waterside. The bugs are in the river, so a slower start, means they’ve got to catch up and we are starting to see that now and expect it will continue throughout May.
We have limited remaining availability during May and June for our beginners courses, private lessons and guided fishing. It’s peak season with mayfly time, so do checkout the availability calendar for our options ASAP and secure your booking.
We look forward to seeing you waterside!
