Fishing Reports

Double Figure Rainbow Trout

Another amazingly busy month here at MFF, lots of very happy clients and awesome fly fishing!

The Lakes

Double Figure Rainbow Trout
18lb Rainbow on a buzzer. Who says big fish don't eat small flies?

Hot lake fishing continued with some of the best fly hatches in recent years, resulting in amazing imitative fly fishing, including dry fly opportunities a plenty. Several clients landed P.B. trout during tuition and corporate days, with fine rainbow and brown trout caught. Top flies have been buzzers in various colours, PTN, diawl bach, mayfly nymph, daddies, hoppers, damsels, mayfly emmerger, F fly, hares ear, shipmans buzzer.

Our new pike season has started well too with numbers of fish, plus a few surprises!

Damsel nymph numbers are huge this year so expect some superb summer fishing to these. Check out some great tips and flies here.

Rivers

Spring river brown trout
A stunning brown trout caught on dry fly!

Mayfly came early in the south and certainly started early in Derbyshire too. A spell of cooler weather put the hatch on hold so that anyone who booked Wye trips for Mayfly will have some fun as they are bang on now! Despite low water for the time of year, spring fed rivers like chalkstreams have fished well, good dry fly and nymph fishing, excellent sight fishing conditions, all round good fishing.

Top flies have been parachute emmergers, mayflies, black gnat, poly wing midge, hares ear, F fly, PTN. Expect more great fishing during June!
