True summer fly fishing conditions have prevailed during recent weeks, resulting in superb action on the river and challenging conditions on the lakes. To add to Steve’s comments in the above video, the river fishing is epic and we expect it to continue similarly until the season ends in early October. Productive sport to spiders, many general purpose nymphs and dry flies suggesting the upwing, caddis and terrestrial bugs to be found riverside currently. For some really fun fishing, you might like to try the beetle technique shown in this video. It is also good to use daddies and caddis flies fished like this, especially more buoyant patterns.
With daylight hours now noticeably reducing, we are once again approaching good fishing on the still waters. Cooling water will encourage trout to feed better during the day and autumn is a great time to be on the water.
