The heat wave of recent weeks has taken us into summer fishing conditions proper. Lakes have begun their seasonal slowdown caused by by the combination of higher temperatures and high fish food abundance. As you can see from the above image, it is far from impossible to catch trout! It’s also a great time of year to enjoy the countryside and learn new skills. Top tip: – For now and weeks to come expect smaller flies to have the edge.
The river fishing however is superb, particularly on the Derbyshire Wye. The water is very clear, you can spot the trout and watch them take your fly (or not). Very exciting stuff and educational too. We are having a ball introducing people to the joys of river fly fishing here, plus guiding numbers of visiting fly fishers. Top tip: – If in doubt use a small black fly.
Come join the fun!
